Before I go on and on about my birthday, I have NEWS! After so many of you asking, I’m teaching a virtual cartoon class starting on January 31st and you are THE FIRST to know!
This 6 week workshop will introduce you to the comics world, learning from from single panel gag cartoons to long form comic essays. You do not need to be an incredible artist to take this class! Newbs welcome! Together we will draw, laugh, ideate and discuss our work. I’m so excited! ALSO! If you are a paid subscriber here on Substack, you will receive a $75 off coupon! All you need to do is email me. Got questions? Reach out!
Back to our regular programming…
At the end of this month I’ll be turning 33, also known as one’s Jesus year. But the more I think about it, I think I’d rather be more of the Mary Magdalene type? I don’t want to die on a cross for being a “such good guy,” but I would like to remembered as a great whore (What else can I call all this “writing about my life for money” shenanigans??)
To commemorate my birthday, I looked through my sketchbooks from every January going back to 2017 (when I started to keep sketchbooks regularly) to see what I could find. There is the obvious revelations of my art getting better and witnessing myself come out of depression, but I guess what I really see here is me, becoming me. Enjoy!

Do you have any birthday rituals? I always love to hear what people do to mark their trip around the sun! My friend Scout told me once that she writes notes to herself and buries them. HOW COOL IS THAT! I felt so boring after I heard that, like all I do is draw things — they’re not buried anywhere!!!
Live in NYC? Come celebrate my birthday with me at Young Ethel’s on January 24th, 9 PM! We have a great lineup with some secret special guests :) Free show as always!
Thank you for reading! New posts every Friday!

I have a birthday festival every year that is officially called The Festical of Medha and includes at least one event every day for a week. Said event includes a range of people from different sphere of my life and it is THE BEST. I never work on my actual birthday and that day is always the main event. Highly recommend.
