Hello and welcome to the 5th film in the Pinot Noir series! Tonight we watch… Shadow of a Doubt.
For me, Alfred Hitchcock’s Shadow of a Doubt is about one thing and one thing only, a really inappropriate relationship between a teenage girl and her uncle. Is there more going on? Yes! The film continues Hitchcock’s love affair with Northern California (Same, Hitch, same), it stars famed hot boy Joseph Cotten, and follows a classic noir trope of someone walking along the edge of society. But murders aside, the real questionable actions in this film are not homicide, but again, a really really not ok vibe between a girl and her uncle!!!!
Where to watch:
You can find Shadow of A Doubt on the Peacock app, Classic Movies, for rent on Amazon, and also thanks to the great investigative services of one of my subscribers, for free on archive.org!
Come back to discuss!
I’ll start a Subscribers only chat thread tonight at 8 PM EST to discuss the film. Join the conversation whenever is convenient for you. Again, I will mostly want to talk about Theresa Wright and Joseph Cotten’s very odd/hot/sexy/tormented relationship.
As always, the list of films is free but if you want to participate in community discussion of the films, that will be for paid subscribers only! Please do consider becoming a paid subscriber because it helps me justify all the time I spend making this newsletter.
Excited! I have never seen this one!
