Aloha! Can you believe I’m still saying Aloha when it’s been over a month since I went to Maui? How embarrassing! I am officially headed back to the East Coast—once again can’t believe how time flies!! It’s been a wonderful summer in California, filled with me screaming at my dad’s tomato garden, screaming at children, and screaming at the TV!!! (PS happy to report the heirloom tomatoes have finally ripened and I’m SWIMMING IN THEM!!!)
It’s been a horrible time for politics but I guess like… what’s new huh? I’m not sure what I’m supposed to expect anymore. All that said I’m happily on the Kamala bandwagon! I wish we could get the democrats to organize as quickly as the gays in Fire Island!! Did you SEE how fast they made Kamala Brat Summer t-shirts??? I WANT ONE!!!!
One of my main activities the past two months and also the past 10 years has been thrifting in small towns. I’ve always been into old shit, but it seems that more and more people these days are feeling bad about buying new things (who knew!). I’ve noticed more and more thrift and vintage shops popping up across the country and for me, it’s an utter delight! Places like Pacific Pickins, Kool Shit, Random & Rare! I got myself an exercise vinyl called Dance Aerobics that comes with a whole booklet on stretching. I got glass cocktail mixer with a dice on the end. I got a Snoopy arm sling from 1968 just in case I get injured! Do you identify as a thrifter? Do you have a favorite find?? A lot of my most recent thrifting was done on the northern coast of Oregon during my annual family reunion. When people hear me talk about a week long family reunion, they usually shudder and imagine nothing but drinking and fighting…
…but I have been blessed with a truly wonderful (and massive) extended family. And by wonderful I mean very funny. So it’s really more, as my cousin Bonnie Lynn once put it, “drinking and talking about dead people.” And golf!
(It’s true I DID get a GREAT VISOR in Hawaii and I won’t shut up about it!!)
So today I’m packing up my bags and prepping for a drive back across the country. I’ll be missing waking up every morning to The Today Show’s Hoda & Jenna tell me about “record breaking travel days”—something that will always make me laugh—and watching my nephew play baseball game after baseball game.
What will Margie miss? This.
…but! I have so much to look forward to back in New York this late summer! Outside of the fact that I have a massive book deadline—here’s my current headspace:
…I also announced yesterday that I’m hosting a Frasier Day Variety Show at Caveat on September 10th and I’m UNREAL EXCITED FOR IT! Do you know anyone who would be perfect for this show? Are YOU in fact, perfect for this show? Please fill out the submission form! Tickets are already available, and unlike Niles’ favorite wines, the early bird special is very affordable!
I’m also thrilled to say I have a bunch of other shows coming up! I’ll return to Real Live Girls on August 14th, lineup includes Ellen Doyle & Natasha Vaynblat, I’ll be performing at Ten Ten Burlesque on August 30th and much more. Who’s stressed?? NOT ME!!!??? Links coming soon!
The real news today? IT’S MARGIE’S BIRTHDAY! HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY TO MY SWEET PYSCHO MARGENE WHO HAS NO IDEA HER TIME ON THE WEST COAST IS OVER!!!!
