Welcome back to third week of Pinot Noir, a film club where we watch and learn about my favorite film movement/era/style, noir!
This week we are watching an absolute banger, The Maltese Falcon (1941) starring Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor and Peter Lorre in John Houston’s directorial debut. The film is an adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s novel of the same name from a decade earlier about a private detective in San Francisco who is on the hunt for…well, a statue of a bird.
Where to watch:
You can find The Maltese Falcon for rent on most streaming services like Amazon, Apple and Vudu, or even something called Row8 on Roku.
Come back to discuss!
I’ll start a Subscribers only chat thread tonight at 8 PM EST to discuss the film. Join the conversation whenever is convenient for you! There’s so much to talk about when it comes this damn bird.
As always, the list of films is free but if you want to participate in community discussion of the films, that will be for paid subscribers only! Please do consider becoming a paid subscriber because it’s honestly a lot of fun and cheaper than an iced latte!
P.S. If you’re new here, you can check out the first two films—Double Indemnity and Gilda!
FYI: You can watch it for free on the Internet archives, here:
